the trials and tribulations of gigging in new england

Possibly one of the most annoying things that people do at an intimate musical event is to address, heckle, or otherwise verbally assault the artist while he or she is tryng to perform. Yes people, the speaking in between songs is part of the performance, not an invitation to flap your gums while other patrons who payed for tickets are trying to listen. Manners folks, manners. Didin't mommy teach you anything. The neuveau riche, psuedo intellectual stuffed shirts are the worst. I saw Pierre Bensusan corrected on stage, in front of his audience, by one of these malcontents tryng to prove his own intelligence and self worth to himself and his friends. Performing is difficult enough without having to fight your audience. Besides, are we not in the audience to support and lift up an artist in the first place. I have never bought a ticket to a concert so that I would have the opportunity to verbally derail an artists momementum midstream. I am not even speaking for myself as an artist. I realize my position all to well. I also understand that the places I perform at currently are not high art performace venues but in fact…they are bars. When taking in a performance by an artist of Pierre Bensusans level and prowess…save the commentary. Its rude, distracting, and unnecessary.
